In the face of a worsening climate crisis, the overarching theme of the summit was obviously a call to ACTION over lip service. As UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres asserted to world leaders, “...the ticket to entry is not a beautiful speech but concrete action.”
Many CSR initiatives are often still barebones programs that encourage companies to do the bare minimum, and worse still, other attempts at brand purpose and CSR initiatives are negatively impacted by irresponsible core business operations.
It seems timely that over in the Northern Hemisphere, the USA’s Business Roundtable (the association representing CEOs of America’s top companies) recently announced their new “statement on the purpose of a corporation”, seemingly peppered with the right lingo around a shift in focus to stakeholder value, social good and the role of business in society.
